HW Nissan C10 Skyline Wagon (2018 Car Culture Cargo Carriers)

The Nissan C10 Skyline Wagon from Hot Wheels' 2018 Car Culture Cargo Carriers Series!
Check out the video:

What the Hot Wheels team has done with their Car Culture Series has been incredible! I'd love to have some of the others in this Cargo Carriers line, particularly the Mooneyes Volkswagen Bus and the Honda Odyssey, but have not seen any on the pegs- I had to buy the Skyline Wagon from an eBay seller. Below, the Skyline Wagon with my Japan Historics Series 2 Nissan Laurel 2000GSX and Nissan Skyline C210...

HW '71 Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon, Custom '62 Chevy Pickup (2017)

Lucked out recently finding  this HW '71 Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon and Custom '62 Chevy Pickup  from the 2017 M and L-Cases. Along with a few other choice pieces, these two were tucked behind some boxes on a Target end cap! Someone either had to abort their hunt unexpectedly, or intended to return later. Check out the video:

Below, the yellow 2015 G-Case Datsun Bluebird Wagon and 2015 E-Case Custom Chevy Pickup next to their most recent variations. I hate that Mattel removed the plastic surfboard from the Chevy Pickup, but the color presentation and deco was too good to pass on, and I don't mind the sunroof...

Matchbox '59 Chevy Wagon

Like the Matchbox Cement King, I was surprised by finding the '59 Chevy Wagon, in spite of there being a recent flood of new Matchbox on the local retail market. Matchbox continues to drop licensed models, all the cards featuring great artwork. There is some plainness in the sculpt of the canoe & luggage atop the car made more so by it's color, but the chrome grill and paint apps along the side perk things up. All said, welcome new model!

HW BMW M4 & '71 Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon (2015 G-Case)

I've been collecting cars so fast that I've neglected to show much from my an earlier G-case haul this past spring, the extra-cool Hot Wheels BMW M4 and '71 Bluebird Wagon of particular interest to me. This will be another Double Feature Drivin' Movie here at the Super Fun Hot Wheels blog, starting with the BMW M4! Check out the video:

I found this '71 Bluebird wagon plentiful, as was the case with the M4- I love this one even more!
Check out the video:

Below, the yellow 2015 G-case Datsun Bluebird with the earlier red 2014 Q-case Datsun Bluebird, the latter quite scarcely seen in these parts. Oddly, I actually found another red Bluebird on an international card in a local grocery store only a few weeks ago...

Tomica Honda Fit Shuttle & Toyota Corolla Fielder

The Super Fun Hot Wheels Blog has been taken over by my latest diecast fascination- Tomica! We'll continue with these wonderful compact wagons, which feature metalflake paint and opening hatchbacks! I love a diecast model in this class, and collect nearly any I can find. Check out the nice little badges on the grill. The slotted wheels on this car have "suspension", like the childhood Tomica I still have a few of, released as Pocket Cars here in the U.S. during the '70s & '80s.

I love the hatchbacks on these, even if they are slightly clunky- they do stay up when opened, unlike some of the hoods on Greenlight castings. One could quibble with the painted back window, but in order to keep the cost down, it was likely necessary because of the way the hatchback was engineered. A working feature like this is rare on a Matchbox or Hot Wheels car nowadays...

These these cheap little imported vehicles may be commonplace in Asia, but their slight differences are appealingly exotic to my Western eyes. Like Matchbox and Hot Wheels, they have their own style and endearing features, but the working parts make them special.

The dark blue and purple Tomica castings look great! Pictured below with the Honda Fit and Corolla Fielder with the Nissan Serena and Isuzu Giga Full Trailer Dump...

Tomica Suzuki Wagon R

As I stated in my last post, there will be a not so brief takeover of the Super Fun Hot Wheels Blog by my newest diecast fascination: Tomica! We'll continue with these Suzuki Wagons, which feature metalflake paint and opening hatchbacks! Check out the nice little "S" on the grill.  The slotted wheels on this car have "suspension", like the childhood Tomica I still have a few of, released as Pocket Cars here in the U.S. during the '70s & '80s.

A working feature like this is rare on a Matchbox or Hot Wheels car nowadays...

As I've said, these cheap little imports have their own style and endearing features. They are made inexpensively as possible, like Matchbox and Hot Wheels, so that most everyone can afford them.  These may be easy to find in Asia, but their slight differences are appealingly exotic to my Western eyes. Fun!

Matchbox Outdoor Sights 5-pack

At first glance, I hadn't notice this Matchbox Outdoor Sights 5-pack contained a Travel Trailer- I'd admired the red Tahoe and blue  Cadillac CTS Wagon, but missed the camper! I can see what Mattel was going for in the color choice of the MBX Prospector, but it's not the most flattering shade of green, made worse I might add being cast in plastic. While I'd say the Honda Ridgeline with the Travel Trailer in tow is the star of this set, the Tahoe and Cadillac appeal to me greatly- check out the video:

HW Datsun 620 Pickup & Bluebird 510 Wagon

Only this past weekend was I fortunate enough to finally find the coveted '71 Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon, and serendipitously stumbled across a few of the red 620 pickups released earlier this summer. Perfect! Check out the video:

I originally passed on the 2014 red 620 pickup, but later snagged the 2015 green 620 pickup, sorry that I'd let it go months before. There's a blue and orange version of this '72 Datsun pickup as well, but felt fortunate to get these- it's popularity seems to have grown among collectors...

2013 HW Showroom Cars

There's a K-Mart in the Northwest region of the county that I've collected numerous castings from 2013 and 2012 at, where I recently found what appeared to be new, older stock. I'd been through those pegs at least three or four times, so I'm certain I hadn't missed them- an employee must have uncovered these among stray merchandise in back and put them out. Lucky me.

'92 and '07 Ford Mustangs
I found two of this pair in green, leaving the other for some other lucky duck. I love that Mattel dropped both in complementary decos- wonderful! The '92 has the retro hood design, cueing me to their individuality on the pegs, which I had to inspect more closely to detect...

I actually have quite the garage full of Ford Mustang castings after my summer of collecting Hot Wheels, including this yellow '99 Mustang that came with a HW 3-pack...

1987 Toyota Pickup
I love the wheels on this truck, though the color scheme seems more 1980 than 1987. That opinion matters little next to the nostalgia felt looking at it- what a great piece! The wheels look great in vac-metal, like the undercarriage extending through the bumpers at both ends, and the body graphics are '80s all the way...

'69 Ford Torino Talladega & '70 Chevelle SS Wagon
I love the long and low profile on these two! The Torino's color scheme looks period accurate, and the flat black & yellow on the Chevelle Wagon is really an attention-getter with it's matching rims. Bot cars benefit from their vac-metal bases extending into the front & rear bumpers. Two very cool Hot Wheels cars...

'70 Chevy Chevelle SS
And last, but certainly not least, this bad black beauty! Lots of nice details in the multiple tampos throughout the body and interior, with that irresistible, high-gloss black finish... tough!
