HW Premium MOTU Land Shark

It's been a minute since I picked up any Hot Wheels, but I had to pick up this new Hot Wheels Masters of the Universe Land Shark! I have a full size MOTU Origins Series Land Shark on preorder, so I thought this would keep me entertained until it ships. Check out the video...

I feel like Mattel should have made this casting a little bigger- While it captures the Land Shark aesthetics, it's somewhat puny. Another miss would be the inability to pose the jaw open- frankly, I was a little surprised the jaw didn't open and close when rolling the casting. Below, my Mattel MOTU Origins Series Skeletor with his new toy...

HW Character Cars MOTU Beastman & Man-At-Arms

There are five cars in the new Hot Wheels Masters of the Universe Character Cars Series, my two favorite being the Beastman and Man-At-Arms! It's been a minute since I picked up any Hot Wheels, but I couldn't resist these cool MOTU interpretations! Check out the video...

HW Bogzilla

There were Hot Wheels designed to accommodate an minifigure prior to the HW Ride-Ons Series, such as the Let's Go, and MegaBloks had an entire Hot Wheels line a few years ago that I absolutely  loved. But aside from my recent post on the HW Holiday Hot Rods Pedal Driver, these Bogzilla castings new in 2018 are the only official Ride-Ons I've featured on the blog so far. I admired the forward pitch and chunky body on this casting. The design team at Hot Wheels was particularly thoughtful drawing action figure/Lego enthusiasts by make a toy promoting cross-play among different lines of toys. Really fun!

I picked up the two gold Bogzilla with muddy tires for my Mega Construx Call of Duty Specialist Battery
& Vladimir Makarov to tool around in, but a Lego minifig like my Iron Spider really fits better.

HW 2018 Holiday Hot Rods Series Pedal Driver

The 2018 HW Holiday Hot Rods Series included six cool castings, one of which I could not pass up,
the Pedal Driver, which is fun for my Hot Wheels Mega Bloks figure to ride in! Check out the video:

HW '16 Honda Civic Type R & '90 Civic EF

The '16 Honda Civic Type R & '90 Civic EF from the Hot Wheels 2016 Then & Now Series!
Check out the video:

I finally cobbled these two complementary Civics together, recently picking up the '16 Honda Civic Type R at a local Target. Oddly, I saw another pair at Target soon thereafter, a full two years after their 2016 release. I left those behind for some other lucky kid to find! Somewhere I have the 2014 red and teal debut of the '90 Civic EF, as well as a couple other samples from 2015- what a great casting!

HW Custom Ford Maverick

It's easy to pass over this Custom Ford Maverick, but off the card it's a beauty! From Hot Wheels Wikia: This custom 1972 Ford Maverick is based on a real car created in 2016 by Sung Kang, who previously built the Datsun Fugu-Z (another Hot Wheels model). Originally titled "Project Underdog" or "UDog", the restomod Maverick was designed and built at SEMA Garage with Penzoil sponsorship and the help of three Los Angeles area high school students (symbolized by the "U3" logo seen on the sides and rear). Contrary to the Hot Wheels card text, the UDog has a 2.3L four-cylinder Ford EcoBoost engine (from the 2015 Mustang) boosted with a GReddy turbocharger supplying nearly 400 horsepower to the 6-speed manual transmission (also borrowed from the Mustang). The car features a Rocket Bunny custom body kit, a Grabber-style carbon-fiber hood, and subtle cues from the Brazilian Mavericks built in the late '70s.

Check out the video:

HW Nissan C10 Skyline Wagon (2018 Car Culture Cargo Carriers)

The Nissan C10 Skyline Wagon from Hot Wheels' 2018 Car Culture Cargo Carriers Series!
Check out the video:

What the Hot Wheels team has done with their Car Culture Series has been incredible! I'd love to have some of the others in this Cargo Carriers line, particularly the Mooneyes Volkswagen Bus and the Honda Odyssey, but have not seen any on the pegs- I had to buy the Skyline Wagon from an eBay seller. Below, the Skyline Wagon with my Japan Historics Series 2 Nissan Laurel 2000GSX and Nissan Skyline C210...

HW Hollowback: 2018 L-Case T-Hunt

I'm not big on the plastic body/metal base, I'm fond of the Hollowback in the way I am the Country Club Muscle; I'd rather the body be diecast, but I like the design and if the color/deco is fun, I'm in. Part of the Glow Wheels Series, this purple Hollowback is the 2018 L-Case Treasure Hunt. Check out the video:

HW Lamborghini Countach Pace Car & Aventador Miura Homage- 2018 K-Case

It wasn't too long after hearing about the Hot Wheels Lamborghini Countach Pace Car and Aventador Miura Homage that I hunted a couple down, the latter more challenging to find. I was not disappointed in these castings, the Countach Pace Car a particular treat. Check out the video:

As seen in the photo below, these cars don't have the same shade of red paint: the Countach has more blue in it's red, and the Aventador more warm. Their accent colors complement these tones, but it may have been fun if they were a matching set. Still, these Lambos are a treat to get, and I couldn't be happier to have found them- cheers to the Hot Wheels Diecast Design Team!

HW Nissan Fairlady Z (2018 H & L-Case GReddy)

I could not ignore how much I like the Nightburnerz Fairlady Z from my last post, so I picked up the
white 2018 H-Case and red L-Case Fairlady Z in the GReddy livery! Check out the video:

HW Nissan Fairlady Z & '96 Nissan 180SX Type X (2017Q, 2018E Nightburnerz)

The Hot Wheels Nissan Fairlady Z  from the 2017 Q-Case and the '96 Nissan 180SX Type X from the 2018 E-Case, both in black/red with the Advan livery. It took me a couple passes to warm up to these two Nightburnerz Series castings, but what a pair! I have a few of the '96 Nissan, a casting I love, but was never a big fan of the Fairlady Z nose. Out of the package however, I found a new appreciation for the latter. Check out the video:

HW Japan Historics Series 2 Nissan Laurel 2000SGX & Nissan Skyline C210

Lucked upon these HW Car Culture Series 2 Japan Historics castings at a local Target last weekend, and am mostly certain it was the first and only time I'd encountered any from the series since their release in January of 2018. The Nissan Laurel and Skyline are two of the best from this line in my opinion, and their complementary styling and colors make them quite the pair! Check out the video:

I have the Car Culture Race Day and Japan Historics Series 1 Mazda RX-3 castings on card still, but the orange Series 2 looks cool. Otherwise, I'm not a Datsun Fairlady fan really, and the Bluebird 510 looks somewhat plain on the cardback. The Laurel and Skyline are definitely the two for me- the card art on these is exceptional, too. These have increased in price to $5.50, but I did get a small discount with my Target card, and they are two rock solid offerings from Mattel with that great Hot Wheels styling.

HW '17 Pagani Huayra Roadster

I've had the Hot Wheels 2017 N-Case Huayra Roadster since last year, and figured it was time to crack it open after I found the 2018 silver F-Case and red L-Case samples. I have a couple of the regular Pagani Huayras from a few years back, but these new Roadsters are the bomb! Check out the video:

HW Dodge Charger Drift Metro Police Pursuit-2018

Mad for the deco on these 2018 HW Dodge Charger Drift Metro Police Pursuit cars!
Check out the video:

The Dodge Charger Drift makes a fun police car- I love the angled lightbar and wide spoiler!

HW Nightburnerz 5-Pack -2018

This recent Hot Wheels Nightburnerz  5-pack is all killer/no filler, for the most part loaded:
Nissan 350Z, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, '85 Honda CR-X,
Dodge challenger Drift Car, SRT Viper GTS-R.

Check out the video:

I like every cast in in this 5-pack, the Viper last on my list but with an undeniably beautiful gold deco. My favorite may be the red Challenger Drift, shown below with both my red and purple 2016 Challenger Drift Cars, and my blue and yellow 2014-15 Challenger Drift Cars. See comparisons with other models in this HW Nightburnerz 5-Pack in the video above!

HW '16 Cadillac ATS-V R

I love the wide stance, big spoiler, "Y" 5-spoke wheels on this Cadillac race car! The ATS-V R is a new casting for 2018, part of the Legends of Speed subline, which I was lucky to find in both colorways. What a great car! Check out the video:

HW 50th Anniversay Decades Cars

I didn't pic up all the castings from this ten car set of 50th Anniversary Decades cars at Target, but did get a good sample from each era. While there isn't much to lose your mind over, I like the idea and there were some decent models among these castings. Check out the video:

I think the red '83 Silverado from this series will be popular- see my 2015 post on the orange FRAM Silverado, and my 2014 post on the green and yellow Silverados! Below, the Decades '70 Dodge Charger R/T and my Fast & Furious Series '70 Dodge Charger R/T. See more deco comparisons with the other cars in my video above!

HW Hollowback- 2018 C-Case

I'm not usually a fan of the plastic body, save the X-Raycer cars, but I loved the colorful deco on this new Hollowback! This Hot Wheels fantasy casting looks inspired by a late '60s Dodge Charger or Chevelle with it's quasi-fastback styling. The casting underwent a change in 2013, removing the grill which originally extended from the engine onto the front of the car, which is unfortunate, but it's still a fun car. Check out the video:
