HW 2016 Truck Series: '10 Toyota Tundra, 1979 Ford Pickup, '09 F-150

I found these Walmart exclusive Hot Wheels Truck Series the night after being made aware of their existence through a YouTube video. A couple thorough searches through two dump bins failed to produce the Datsun 620 pickup offered in this 6-car set, likely due to a greedy scalper, but I did pick up these three trucks. HW "Tooned" Toyota MR2

I've said before that I like Japanese sport cars, but am really lovin' the "Tooned" features of these exaggerated Toyota MR2. Fun! I can take or leave a spoiler from model to model, but appreciate the oversized fin on these. The green & white are 2004 1st. Edition, and the red a 2015 blind-bagged Mystery Model. I prefer the black hood on the former, but felt lucky to stumble onto the new red MR2 only days after scoring the 1st Editions on eBay. Fun! Check out the video:

HW 2 Fast 2 Furious '94 Toyota Supra

By the looks of the card, this Hot Wheels 2 Fast 2 Furious '94 Toyota Supra must have been dug out of a dump bin when the latest batch of L-case came in. I didn't see a lot of these Fast & Furious on the pegs in the last 12 months, most of which I'm certain was purchased on sight by enthusiastic collectors. Check out the video:

Tomica Honda Fit Shuttle & Toyota Corolla Fielder

The Super Fun Hot Wheels Blog has been taken over by my latest diecast fascination- Tomica! We'll continue with these wonderful compact wagons, which feature metalflake paint and opening hatchbacks! I love a diecast model in this class, and collect nearly any I can find. Check out the nice little badges on the grill. The slotted wheels on this car have "suspension", like the childhood Tomica I still have a few of, released as Pocket Cars here in the U.S. during the '70s & '80s.

I love the hatchbacks on these, even if they are slightly clunky- they do stay up when opened, unlike some of the hoods on Greenlight castings. One could quibble with the painted back window, but in order to keep the cost down, it was likely necessary because of the way the hatchback was engineered. A working feature like this is rare on a Matchbox or Hot Wheels car nowadays...

These these cheap little imported vehicles may be commonplace in Asia, but their slight differences are appealingly exotic to my Western eyes. Like Matchbox and Hot Wheels, they have their own style and endearing features, but the working parts make them special.

Tomica Mitsubishi Mirage & Toyota Vitz

The Super Fun Hot Wheels Blog has been taken over by my latest diecast fascination- Tomica! We'll continue with these wonderful subcompacts, which feature metalflake paint and opening hatchbacks! I love a diecast model in this class, and collect nearly any I can find. Check out the nice little badges on the grill. Tomica Toyota Vellfire & Nissan Serena

If you are new to the Super Fun Hot Wheels Blog, let me first say that I feature several 1:64 scale diecast vehicles here, not only Hot Wheels. And for now, this blog will be not so temporarily overtaken by my latest obsession in the aforementioned category, Tomica!

Tomica Toyota Vellfire

When exploring which Tomica to buy, I could hardly ignore the Vellfire with it's working double passenger doors.While these Tomica are basically the Matchbox of Japan, you won't find a feature like this on a Mattel diecast vehicle. Greatness!

Nissan Serena

This Nissan van may not have had enough room for the sliding panel doors, being smaller in size than the Vellfire, but it does have a hatchback. Though slightly clunky, the hatchback stays up when opened, unlike some of the hoods on Greenlight castings. Great metalflake plum color on this Tomica!

Tomica Suzuki Wagon R and Nissan Serena...

Matchbox MBX Explorers Series Vehicles

Love these Matchbox Explorer Series vehicles for a lot of the same reasons I liked the Hot Wheels Off-Road Trucks I posted on back in November, though the Matchbox offers a few more realistic castings, like the Toyota and Land Rover. Check out the video:

Of interest in particular to myself was the new MBX 4x4 pictured below, which is Matchbox's own off-road jeep- great casting and great color...

HW Retro Entertainment '71 Mustang Mach 1 & 1987 Toyota Pickup

While I find the five dollar price point a little steep, I do enjoy the solid, all diecast construction and rubber tires on these Hot Wheels retro entertainment releases. The paint and tampos have been simple on the pieces I've picked up, but flawlessly applied. Be sure to see my post on the HW Fast & Furious '70 Dodge Charger R/T and '08 Dodge Challenger SRT8. I remember when Back To the Future came out in 1985, and loved the movie- times were good! I've not seen Diamonds Are Forever, but am enthusiastic about muscle cars of this vintage nonetheless. See my video for more at YouTube:

2013 HW Showroom Cars

There's a K-Mart in the Northwest region of the county that I've collected numerous castings from 2013 and 2012 at, where I recently found what appeared to be new, older stock. I'd been through those pegs at least three or four times, so I'm certain I hadn't missed them- an employee must have uncovered these among stray merchandise in back and put them out. Lucky me.

'92 and '07 Ford Mustangs
I found two of this pair in green, leaving the other for some other lucky duck. I love that Mattel dropped both in complementary decos- wonderful! The '92 has the retro hood design, cueing me to their individuality on the pegs, which I had to inspect more closely to detect...

I actually have quite the garage full of Ford Mustang castings after my summer of collecting Hot Wheels, including this yellow '99 Mustang that came with a HW 3-pack...

1987 Toyota Pickup
I love the wheels on this truck, though the color scheme seems more 1980 than 1987. That opinion matters little next to the nostalgia felt looking at it- what a great piece! The wheels look great in vac-metal, like the undercarriage extending through the bumpers at both ends, and the body graphics are '80s all the way...

'69 Ford Torino Talladega & '70 Chevelle SS Wagon

I love the long and low profile on these two! The Torino's color scheme looks period accurate, and the flat black & yellow on the Chevelle Wagon is really an attention-getter with it's matching rims. Bot cars benefit from their vac-metal bases extending into the front & rear bumpers. Two very cool Hot Wheels cars...

And last, but certainly not least, this bad black beauty! Lots of nice details in the multiple tampos throughout the body and interior, with that irresistible, high-gloss black finish... tough!
