HW Ferrari and Mustang 50th Anniversary 5-pks

I'd been eyeing the Hot Wheels Ferrari and Mustang 50th 5-packs for some time now, and finally picked them up at TRU on a buy-one/get-one at 40% off this past weekend. The cars are all pretty good in these sets, but they are also special in that each contains one car that has a hinged hood, a feature that has been discontinued in more recent releases of the same 5-packs. Ferraris first ...!

The Ferrari 458 Spider and Enzo Ferrari are flashy sports cars, the Spider in an eye-popping red, and the Enzo in black sparkle best appreciated out of the packaging. I'm not always a fan of the tampo/painted headlights, but they are okay on these...

Yellow cars aren't always my favorite, and though the seam in the Ferrari F40 rear engine hatch is painfully uneven, I like the car's sporty overall look. Subsequent one-piece versions of this casting are an improvement, but I appreciate the novelty...

The Ferrari 430 Scuderia and 612 Scaglietti appear somewhat plain after seeing the others, but have neat tampos in their tastefully restrained decoration. The Scuderia is particularly appealing up close with it's clear plastic headlights and rear hatch, revealing the molded engine details. The Scaglietti's pearlescent white finish and dark red interior aren't flashy, but elegantly refined...

I've amassed quite the collection of Ford's most famous muscle car, but the Mustang 50th Anniversary 5-pack had the castings worth adding...

The purple sparkle '65 Mustang Fastback and pearlescent white 2010 Mustang GT are the more plain of the 5-pack, but still two very handsome cars...

The yellow '99 Mustang I got in a HW 3-pack was also a "Plain Jane" of sorts, and though it's not quite my least favorite car, the '65 and '10 are a little more appealing to me...

The green '63 Mustang II Concept and sky blue '65 are fun convertibles in happy colors! The '63 has more eye appeal for it's vibrant color, but the '65 has the hinged hood, recently replaced as a single diecast body. The end of an era for Hot Wheels its seems...

The green '63 Mustang II Concept with the complimentary '92 and '07 Mustangs I found recently- what trio ...!

My favorite of all these is probably this dark red '69 Ford Mustang, with extra wide racing slicks in back! The pinstriping, front end spoiler, and low riding, big wheels on this car make it really special...

The '69 with my new 2015 Ford Mustang GT found on K-Mart Collector's Day...

Make It FAST- Make It FUN!

  2. Sweet pics again Colin! I remember when I first saw the Enzo HW, I bought like 5 of them at once because my friends and I've been looking for them for a while. Fun to reminisce about times when my friends and I hunted for HW's in high school lol!
